The carnival is famous for its colorful processions, where local participants wear colorful costumes and grotesque masks (tourists can watch but not march). Giant puppets, prepared by residents for months, also take part. The processions are accompanied by traditional music played by masked musicians, dancing, and plenty of alcohol, which contributes to the liberated atmosphere.
